Discover Your Super Powers (Built Through Resilience, Not Toxic Positivity)
A Mental Health Awareness Month Reflection | BeMo Journal
We talk a lot in BeMo about what was missing.
What hurt.
What shaped us.
But let us pause here—and ask a different kind of question:
What strengths have you developed through the resilience you were forced to build?
Not because life was easy.
Not because pain is a gift.
But because you adapted in powerful ways.
We call these your Super Powers.
They are not proof that what happened was okay.
They are proof that you found ways to carry yourself through it.
This is not about toxic positivity.
It is about clear-eyed resilience.
What Are Your Super Powers?
These are not just traits.
They are hard-won, often unnoticed abilities.
They come from experience—but they evolve through awareness and healing.
Here are a few examples:
🌀 You grew up in chaos.
Super Power: You can read a room in seconds. You stay calm when things fall apart.
Healing means knowing you no longer have to live in crisis. You can use that steadiness with intention, not fear.
🌀 You were constantly criticized.
Super Power: You are highly self-aware and thoughtful.
Healing means softening your inner voice and letting go of the belief that being safe means being perfect.
🌀 You were the responsible one too early.
Super Power: You are nurturing, dependable, and tuned in.
Healing means learning to receive care, not just give it.
🌀 You were the peacemaker.
Super Power: You have the gift of emotional presence and de-escalation.
Healing means letting yourself feel, not just fix—especially when you are the one hurting.
🌀 You were ignored or emotionally dismissed.
Super Power: You listen deeply. You notice what others miss.
Healing means making space for your own story, not just holding space for everyone else’s.
🌀 You were expected to perform or impress.
Super Power: You are determined, focused, and capable of achieving big goals.
Healing means choosing rest, letting go of constant proving, and separating your worth from your output.
🌀 You were emotionally neglected.
Super Power: You care deeply. You often understand others without them needing to explain.
Healing means trusting that your feelings matter too—and that you deserve to be held, not just hold it all together.
These Are Not Just Traits—They Are Evolved Responses
Many of your strengths began as strategies.
Now, they are choices.
You do not have to throw them away—you just do not have to suffer for them anymore.
A BeMo Journal Moment:
Try writing through this:
“What have I always been praised for—yet felt pressure around?”
“What skill or instinct came from surviving something hard?”
“How do I want to use that part of me now, from a place of Knowing?”
“What can I stop proving, and start trusting?”
